Fourth Sunday of Advent, 2020

And he came to her and said, ‘Greetings, favoured one! The Lord is with you.’But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. (Lk 1:28-29)

Pondering

In the world of separation and divorce, one is greeted by much that is perplexing and there is much to ponder.

This Sunday’s readings remind us that Mary is one of history’s most courageous women. Her encounter with the angel Gabriel is endlessly fascinating and her risk-taking-pondering is awe-inspiring.

The little angel in the photo holds a heart, just as Gabriel held out to Mary, and all of humanity, the heart of Jesus.  In perplexing times, we can draw close to this outstanding woman and pray, “help me to courageously ponder the risks in my life as you did.”
