Third Sunday of Advent, 2020

John answered them, “I baptize with water; but there is one among you whom you do not recognize, the one who is coming after me, whose sandal strap I am not worthy to untie.” (John 1:26-27)

Joy? < 1 min

You don’t know, what you don’t know. Crossing a field full of landmines knowingly is intimidating.  Discovering you have unknowingly walked into a minefield is quite another thing.  The world of separation and divorce is riddled with mines people don’t anticipate – reduced pensions, legal fees, unexpected revelations, lost friendships. Faced with challenges like these, one might ask, what joy does this Advent Sunday offer?  John’s declaration, “among you stands one whom you do not know” reminds us that God is present among us in ways hidden, extraordinary and deeply personal! There’s great strength and joy in meditating on John’s testimony.

We provide a support group at Queen’s House for people experiencing separation and divorce:

  1. Our comment on this post is similar to our comment on the previous post: Until one has encountered the mines and come to grips with them it would be very difficult meditate on John’s testimony and experience the strength and joy therein.
